Building Trades Instructor

The Building Trades Instructor is responsible for teaching and training students in construction-related skills, including carpentry, masonry, electrical, plumbing, and general building maintenance. The instructor will prepare students for entry-level employment, apprenticeships, or advanced technical training in the construction industry. This role combines classroom instruction with hands-on shop and field experiences to ensure students gain both theoretical knowledge and practical skills.

Key Responsibilities

• Instruction & Curriculum
• Develop and deliver engaging lessons in building trades aligned with state and industry standards.
• Provide hands-on training in carpentry, masonry, electrical, plumbing, and safety practices.
• Integrate employability skills, problem-solving, and teamwork into instruction.
• Student Development
• Assess student progress through assignments, projects, and performance evaluations.
• Guide students in developing technical proficiency, workplace readiness, and professional ethics.
• Support students in preparing for certifications, apprenticeships, or direct workforce entry.
• Program Management
• Maintain a safe, organized, and well-equipped shop/lab environment.
• Collaborate with industry partners to ensure curriculum reflects current practices.
• Participate in advisory committees, professional development, and school-wide initiatives.
• Compliance & Safety
• Enforce OSHA and school safety standards in all instructional activities.
• Ensure proper use and maintenance of tools, equipment, and materials.
• Maintain accurate records of student attendance, grades, and program outcomes.

Qualifications

• Education/Experience
• High school diploma or equivalent required; postsecondary training or journeyman status preferred.
• Minimum of 3--5 years of experience in building trades (construction, carpentry, electrical, plumbing, or related field).
• Prior teaching or training experience preferred but not required.
• Licensure/Certification
• Must hold or be eligible for appropriate state teaching certification/licensure in Building Trades.

Work Environment

Combination of classroom, shop, and field settings. Requires standing, lifting, and operating tools/equipment. Collaborative environment with other instructors, administrators, and industry partners.
